But not for anything bad.

Since it's Yom Kippur, there's no school. And since there's no school, our granddaughter will be free all day. And since our granddaughter will be free all day, we've been invited down to Manhattan to spend the day with her.

Mrs. Hat will be making brownies with her in the morning, and while the brownies are cooling, we'll all go to the library, get some pizza for lunch, maybe visit a nearby playground, and then go back home and decorate the brownies.

Talk about a whirlwind day in the Big Apple!

My daughter texted us earlier this morning to let us know that the child had what she termed "a bananas night." She woke up around 12:00 and only just went back down around 8:30 or so.

We'll take our time leaving home so she can catch up on her sleep. But rather than spend a whole lot of time outside, we'll have quieter activities indoors. Or maybe not. Who knows; she's four years old.

It wasn't what we had planned, but again - she's four years old.

We did enjoy our time together, though. She and Mrs. Hat made and decorated brownies, and they read a lot of books together. We had a pizza delivered for lunch, and spent the day indoors, which was just fine.

While she's very fond of me, she's not at a stage where she will sit with me or play with me. That's just the stage she's at right now.

We're planning another visit for Indigenous Day in October, and they'll be coming up for a weekend visit in December, on the first night of Hanukkah, which will be very special. Even though we don't live that far apart, the fact that we're in the suburbs and they're in the city makes it seem like visiting is a big deal. If they were only a few town over, we'd see each other all the time.
