So a liberal, a conservative, an Iranian, an Israeli, a Catholic, a Protestant, A Christian, a Muslim, and a billion or so other opposites walk into a room, or bar if you prefer. All will be peaceful, right? Especially since all are seated next to their opposites! That is exactly what happens in social media, with the bigger the site, the greater the mix that wouldn't mix anywhere else. So then we wonder why social media is so contentious. Oh, did I mention there were no weapons, and they are tied to their chairs as long as they remain, just out of reach of each other?

This is why people need sites like this, not to exclude, but to share in a safe environment.

There's enough contention and hostility in other online venues. It's nice to leave those behind and have a place where we can relax, have fun, and share each others' ups and downs in a supportive environment.

I don’t know. I have debated all of those above and found that it turned out fine. However, those were formal or informal debates with structure and rules. Social media took out the rules. Not only took out the rules, but when they realized that taking out the rules and promoting the wildest claims would make them more money, they just shotgunned the rules and went full throttle towards chaos, pettiness, trolls and misinformation. And then siloed users into their own respective little hidey holes only to pop out for vitriol and scapegoating every so often. And they knew it virtually from the get go, users were all played and ceos that never personally matured past 14 years of age made millions and billions. Fun, right?
