I'm doing a two-fer today, because of the unique quintet I'm featuring. Carmel A-Cappella blends their voices perfectly, and take advantage of their different ranges which are featured in these two selections.
First, Vivaldi's "Spring" from his opus "The Four Seasons." You can hear the birds chirping at one point, and maybe even a bit of a rain storm.
And then, for fun, the do the first movement of Beethoven's Fifth Symphony, adding some modern touches. But this selection especially highlights their ranges, from the coloratura soprano's clear, high notes, to the alto's rich tones, which sometimes sound almost masculine, and provide a solid bass foundation to the piece. Often overlooked are the mid-range voices, but keep in mind that, while rarely given a melody or play a part in anchoring the chord, they provide harmonic interest. In both of these selections, the blending of the voices is heavenly.
