I worked retail for about 18 months while in college, plus about 8.5 years front counter as part of a government body, so I can absolutely relate. It's certainly changed how I approach people who are in those type of roles now. I never agreed with the idea that 'the customer is always right', because I know that quote, which everybody seems to hang on to to justify their crappy, entitled attitude and behavior, is actually a misquote. The true original quote is "The customer is always right in matters of personal taste." So, whilst you have to respect that the customer is always the customer, they usually don't get within a lion's roar of being right.
