Hi Misfits,

today it's all about french car manufacturer Renault. @Garebear wrote about owning one in the last gallery (AMC did some collab with Renault for a short while). And since my Dad worked all his life in a dealership for mostly Renaults as a mechanic I thought it's a fitting gallery this one. Most cars will not win any design award (some on the contrary even), but there are some iconic models that will go down in history. And they are a very traditional brand, founded in 1898. Made an alliance not long ago with Nissan and Mitsubishi. Also has other brands under them (Alpine, Dacia and Renault Korea). Even though mostly not thrilling, it's a really reliable brand - and from a technical aspect also a very innovative brand. We grew up on a very tight budget and didn't own a car when I was a kid. But Dad always took a car from the dealership whenever he wanted for the weekend. Never had any trouble, never broke down. Almost totalled one though...me. At age 11. Dad tried to teach me how to drive - a manual of course. And I mixed up the clutch and the throttle. Almost ended up in a wall, but Dad pulled the handbrake in time. It was but a scratch 😀

And these cars are built tough. Drove one for a month on a Road Trip in Italy (Renault Kaleos). Got rear-ended by an Italian hatchback on the Autostrada at a speed of 70mph - him probably going 80mph. Was able to hold the car without swerving. He took over - his front quite crashed in. But he drove away - hit'n'run. Pulled up on the side to check the damage. Barely a scratch - a minor dent in the rear bumper. Since it was a rental car I had to inform the rental company and also do a report to the Italian Police. Besides that we were able to continue our Road Trip. No issues, car drove like new after this accident.

It was impossible to cover all models and all years. Focussed on some classics and modern takes. Also some special models and concepts. The current models lack a bit of creativity, as do so many manufacturers. Still very reliable, but a bit soulless. So I left many of these out. I hope you all enjoy this gallery.
